Thomas Harris Robinson was born in 1834 in Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada but lived and worked in Providence, Rhode Island until his death in 1888. He is best known as a painter of animal, landscape, genre and portrait subjects.

Painted for Charles T. Miller, in his barnyard at 484 County Road, Barrington. The artist was a known Rhode Island painter who was an associate in Vose Gallery, Providence and an exhibitor at the Providence Art Club, and had a studio at Kettle Point.
